Tourism Bureau Makes Donation to Snowmobile Trails Council

Gaylord, MI - The Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau was pleased to make a $5,000.00 donation to the Gaylord Snowmobile Trails Council to assist with ice storm cleanup on our trail system.

Otsego County is home to just under 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Following April’s unprecedented ice storm, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources cleared the snowmobile trails to make them accessible. The Gaylord Snowmobile Trails Council finished the restoration project this fall, widening pathways and removing debris to ensure the safety of snowmobilers for the upcoming season.

“The DNR had a great deal on their plate and we’re thankful they attended to the snowmobile trails as quickly as they did,” commented Paul Beachnau, Executive Director of the Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau. “Our local Trails Council was still faced with a tremendous amount of work to have them ready before the season officially started. We’re grateful for their dedication to maintaining our snowmobile trails and know this was above and beyond what is normally required.”

The Trails Council is also in search of a volunteer able to assist with a trail reroute/land lease project they are currently working on. Anyone interested is encouraged to e-mail the Trails Council at gastc1@outlook.com.

Snowmobile trails are open December 1 – March 31, weather permitting. The Tourism Bureau staff is in touch with groomers daily to provide accurate trail reports, which can be found online at www.gaylordmichigan.net/snowmobile. Free trail maps are available at the Visitor Center, located at 319 West Main Street in Downtown Gaylord.
