Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital Unveils $33.6 Million Expansion, Marks 75 Years of Caring for Northern Michigan

Community invited to October 8 open house to tour expanded facilities and celebrate milestone anniversary

GAYLORD, Mich. – Munson Healthcare is proud to announce the completion of a major expansion and renovation project at Otsego Memorial Hospital (OMH), marking a significant milestone in strengthening access to advanced care for patients across northern Michigan.

Community members are invited to celebrate the hospital's 75th anniversary and tour the newly expanded facilities during a special open house on Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity for the public to view the newly renovated acute care unit, intensive care unit, and birthing center before they officially open to patients later in October. Since opening in 1950, Otsego Memorial Hospital has provided generations of northern Michigan families with high-quality, local healthcare. The October 8 open house will celebrate that legacy while offering a first look at the hospital's expansion.

"This expansion marks a new chapter for Otsego Memorial Hospital, allowing more patients to receive advanced care close to home," said Kirsten Korth-White, President of Munson Healthcare's East Region. "As we celebrate 75 years of caring for this community, we are also investing in its future. These new facilities will help us meet the growing healthcare needs of northern Michigan for generations to come."

The $33.6 million project is designed to improve patient care, comfort, and access to services. The enhancements include:

• Expansion of the Birthing Center from four to seven Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms.

• Addition of dedicated triage and antepartum spaces.

• A new dedicated Cesarean-section surgical suite and recovery room.

• Increased ICU capacity from five to 10 beds.

• New private inpatient and isolation rooms.

• Updated nursing stations designed to support efficient, coordinated patient care.

These improvements support Munson Healthcare's Regional Care Transformation Plan, which aims to strengthen healthcare delivery across northeast Michigan and help patients access more advanced care closer to home.

The expansion follows the opening of Munson Healthcare's new Ambulatory Surgery Center in Gaylord, representing an additional $15 million commitment to the community. Together, these projects reflect nearly $49 million invested in healthcare services for Gaylord and the surrounding communities
