Public Meeting on Wickes TCE Groundwater Plume
HDNW and EGLE invite residents to learn more about monitoring results and the Well First Policy
The Health Department of Northwest Michigan (HDNW) in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) will host a public meeting to provide updates on the Wickes trichlorethylene (TCE) groundwater plume and the associated Well First Policy.
The meeting will take place Wednesday, September 16, at 6:00 P.M. at Shanty Creek Resort, Cedar River Lodge, in the Boardman Meeting Room. The address is 2400 South Troon, Bellaire, MI 49615. There is also an option for virtual attendance. To attend the meeting virtually click here.
Representatives from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), the Mancelona Area Water and Sewer Authority (MAWSA), and the WATARS Association (WATARS) will also be in
attendance.
The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
• 6:00 – 6:30 P.M. Open house: Attendees can meet with representatives from EGLE, HDNW, MDHHS, MAWSA, and WATARS to ask questions and discuss the Wickes TCE groundwater plume and related activities.
• 6:30 – 7:30 P.M. Presentation: Updates will include results from the 2025 environmental monitoring events, the current plume footprint, extension of the Well First Policy, anticipated public waters extensions, and environmental monitoring work that is planned for 2027.
• 7:30 – 8:00 P.M. Open House: Attendees will have another opportunity to speak with representatives from EGLE, HDNW, MDHHS, MAWSA, and WATARS.
The meeting is intended to provide community members with the latest information about ongoing environmental monitoring and planned activities related to the Wickes TCE groundwater plume.
