Great Lakes Energy Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

Boyne City, MI - Great Lakes Energy (GLE) has appointed Denne’ Smith to chief financial officer. Smith previously served as GLE’s vice president of human resources and stepped into her new position on May 1.

“Denne’ has played an integral role in planning and implementing improvements through the human resources department and through Great Lakes Energy as a whole,” Lamp said. “The energy and leadership she will bring to our finance strategy will serve as a natural extension of the improvements she has already brought to the cooperative in her short time with us so far.”

Smith joined the cooperative in 2023 and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management as well as a Master of Business Administration degree. She will maintain leadership and oversight of human resources in addition to her new duties.

Unlike investor-owned utilities, GLE is a not-for-profit business owned by its consumer-members. All Great Lakes Energy assets – even the poles and wires – are owned by its members. GLE provides electricity to roughly 120,000 rural members in 26 counties along the western side of the lower peninsula. Visit gtlakes.com for more information.
