Otsego County history has many amazing women that have left their mark on our county, state, and nation. We were faced with the daunting task of selecting which women to include. Our team created guidelines to follow in the selection process; that they were deceased, had a "claim to fame", inspired others, and brought about positive change. We also tried to make sure all geographic areas of Otsego County were represented as well as each decade.
As a result of the stated criteria, some notable women are missing from this first edition. Many of these will appear in future editions. WE welcome reader suggestions of those individuals and their accomplishments.
This is the first in a series of five books being produced to commemorate Otsego County's sesquicentennial which occurs in 2025. Much of our recorded history tends to be about prominent men. This book attempts to balance that lopsided story by focusing on the accomplishments and contributions of local women over the past 150 years.
