(Gaylord, MI), June 1, 2021 - Otsego County Economic Alliance, Inc. (OCEA) launches Otsego County’s second annual pitch event competition. “Accelerate Otsego” is a program designed to grow entrepreneurism through providing business plan development and pitch assistance that will culminate in a pitch night on September 15, 2021 where competitors will vie for over $22,500 in award funding to assist their business.
Applications are available beginning June 1, 2021 at Otsego County Economic Alliance’s offices located in the Otsego County Courthouse building on Main Street. Applications will be accepted through June 18, 2021 and require a $75 non-refundable application fee to assist with program expenses. The program will begin August 4, 2021 where mentors from the Small Business Development Center and the Gaylord Branch of SCORE will provide required 2-hour assistance, one night a week for 4 weeks at the Otsego County Library to help competing entrepreneurs with their business plans and pitch.
Applicant requirements are that the business must be organized, a for-profit, be either new or in operation less than 3 years, be based in Otsego County and looking to either start-up or enhance its products or services. Due to sponsorship restrictions, marijuana businesses are not eligible for this program.
“Accelerate Otsego” allows OCEA and our partners to provide specific business development tools and resources to our local entrepreneurs along with seed funding that allows them in turn to provide unique or needed businesses to our communities. Through the generous financial support from our local partners that include Consumers Energy, Huntington Bank, DTE, Northeast Michigan Council of Governments, and Otsego County, we were able to raise grant funding of $22,500 to deploy through 4 awards at the event,” stated Lisa McComb, Executive Director of OCEA.
    Award levels are First Place - $9,500, Second Place - $7,000, Third Place - $4,000 and People’s Choice - $2,000
