House and Senate Both on Recess this Week

Both the House and Senate are both on spring recess this week.The House is in their second week of break and will return to session on April 8^th, while the Senate just began their two week break and will return on April 15^th.

Tourism Promotion Bills Move Forward

One of the top initiatives of the Chamber and the Northwest Regional Chamber Alliance is the creation of consistent funding to promote Michigan as a tourism destination.

Both chambers are acting on bipartisan packages aimed at creating a steady stream of funding to promote Michigan in major metropolitan markets across the country. The bills call for the creation of a Michigan Promotion Program by the Michigan Strategic Fund board to promote tourism funding, allocate funds for tourism promotion activities from the 21^st Century Jobs Trust Fund, and recommend a dedicated funding proposal for tourism by the end of 2009.

The senate bills were voted out of the Senate before they adjourned for their spring recess.The bills are SB 1223-25 and can be viewed at www.mileg.org.The bills will now be considered by the House.

Filing Deadline Less than Six Weeks Away

The filing deadline for individuals running for public office have less than six weeks to file the proper paperwork.The filing deadline is May 13^th for the August 5^th primary.See your local clerk for the appropriate forms.
