Chambers hear Great Lakes Compact presentation
On February 28th and 29th, the Northwest Michigan Regional Chamber Alliance hosted Doug Roberts Jr., Environmental Policy Director for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, for a series of presentations to the members of the Chamber Alliance.Meetings were held in Cadillac, Traverse City, Gaylord, and a joint meeting between Charlevoix and Petoskey chamber members in Charlevoix.Mr. Roberts’ presentation focused on the Great Lakes Compact and the latest water use legislation package getting attention in the legislature.Mr. Roberts also discussed a coalition of business interests supporting responsible regulation of water use at the state level, called the Water Works Coalition.As water is an integral part of many business functions, a common sense approach to its regulation and use is being promoted by the Coalition.The Alliance will continue working to make these types of presentations available to its members.
Alliance setting Legislative Agenda
Work on the 2008 Legislative Agenda continues.After a few weeks of snow storm delays, the partners of the Northwest Michigan Regional Chamber Alliance met to formulate this year's legislative agenda.The partners have agreed in concept to the direction and priorities the agenda should contain.Each individual chamber will be taking the document back to their Boards of Directors for review, amendment and approval.The agenda will be used as a general policy guide and outline to legislators the top legislative priorities of the Alliance.When the document is agreed to in its final form, its availability will be announced in the weekly legislative update.
