Otsego County Parks and Recreation Selected as 2008 Honored Industry

(GAYLORD) In recognition of their significant contributions to the community, The Alpenfest Honors Committee has selected the Otsego County Parks and Recreation agency as this year’s Honored Industry.

The agency is charged with managing the Otsego County Community Center, the Otsego Lake County Park, Frank Wilkinson Park, WAH WAH SOO Park, Libke Fields and the Community Center Park.These community resources provide enjoyment to residents and visitors alike.The Otsego County Community Center, open seven days a week, is always the focal place for athletic events and activities for youth and adults.From basketball, gymnastics and aerobics, the center provides an affordable venue for community activities.The parks operated by the agency provide camping, swimming, playgrounds, softball and scenic picnic locations for our community.

The Otsego County Parks and Recreation agency has long been an integral partner with Alpenfest.They annually help to organize the Alpenfest Run, held on the Saturday morning of Alpenfest.The various walks and runs draw over 400 participants every year.

The Alpenfest Honors Committee and the Alpenfest Board of Directors are pleased to honor the entire Otsego County Parks and Recreation Commission and their staff members with the 2008 Honored Industry designation.

The Honors Committee annually convenes representatives from the Alpenfest Board of Directors, the Gaylord/Otsego County Chamber of Commerce, the Otsego County Economic Alliance, and the community at large to review candidates for the Honored Industry award. The selection criterion prescribes that the honoree should be “a great friend to the community, should work to improve rapport between community groups, and have a significant impact on the community.”

As Honored Industry, the Otsego County Parks and Recreation agency will be recognized and saluted at the Alpenfest Honors Luncheon, to be held at The Otsego Club’s Special Event Center at noon on July 15th. Tickets will go on sale in June.
