Chamber Announces 2008 Culinary Arts Scholarship Application Procedure

(GAYLORD) The Gaylord/Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that they will again be presenting a Culinary Art Scholarship to an Otsego County resident pursuing a career in the hospitality field. The $1,000 scholarships will be made available from the proceeds of the 2008 Taste of Gaylord event, held on March 19.

Seventeen local restaurants participated in the gala event held at the Otsego Club and Resort. Set to the theme of “A Fiesta”, the Alpine Chocolat Haus, Alpine Oven, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Arlene’s Diner, Bennethum’s Northern Inn, Big Buck Brewery & Steakhouse, Biggby Coffee, BJ’s Restaurant & Catering, Gobbler’s Restaurant, Jan’s Northside Deli & Market, LaSenorita Mexican Restaurant, Michaywe’ Inn The Woods Restaurant, Osprey Grille at Wilderness Valley, the Otsego Club & Resort, Ponderosa Steakhouse, Starbucks Coffee, and Treetops Resort delighted the 600 guests in attendance with their wonderful faire. These restaurants were joined by the students of the Gaylord High School Advanced Culinary Arts Class. The attendees were entertained throughout the evening by Larry Reichert Entertainment.

In order to be considered for the scholarship, the applicants must be pursuing a career in the culinary arts or hospitality management fields and must be enrolled or accepted into a college/university program. Interested candidates can get complete application details by contacting the Gaylord/Otsego County Chamber of Commerce at (989) 732-6333 or by stopping in at the Chamber office at 101 W. Main Street in downtown Gaylord.

The applications must be received by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14^th. The scholarship recipient will be announced on June 1.
