GAYLORD, Mi – The Gaylord Chamber of Commerce has appointed Ms. Taylar Akin as its new Executive Director. Akin, a recent graduate of Michigan State University will begin her duties June 5, according to GACC Board Chairperson, Marcia Taylor.
“Taylar was our selection committee’s first choice,” M. Taylor said. “The Board of Directors is confident that she will lead the Chamber with energy and enthusiasm. We know she looks forward to connecting with all of our members and building on the success of former Executive Director, Paul Beachnau, who transitioned full-time to the Tourism Bureau in March of this year.”
Akin most recently worked as a Commercial Lines Account Executive at Diebold Insurance Agency in Houghton Lake. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Management. In Houghton Lake, Ms. Akin was an active Rotarian where she chaired the Rotary STRIVE program, a member of the local Lions Club, and Vice President of the Houghton Lake Ambassador Club.
“I am pleased to lead the Chamber as the GACC is the key to a thriving local and regional business environment,” Akin said. “I am eager to begin my service to Otsego County and the region as the new Executive Director of the GACC as we build business for a stronger community together.”
GACC members will be invited through Chamber This Week to a meet-and-greet at the Chamber office for donuts and coffee in early June.
The Gaylord Chamber of Commerce has selected Ms. Rebecca Rodgers to serve as the new Administrative Assistant beginning June 26. Rodgers is a Gaylord native and full time business student.
Rodgers graduated from Gaylord High School in 2015, beginning her Undergraduate in Business Management at Saginaw Valley State University the following fall semester. Rodgers has recently transferred to Northwood University’s Adult Degree Program through the University Center of Gaylord.
In the past, Rodgers was a sales associate at Hogan’s Jewelers in downtown Gaylord. She attributes her discovery of the comradery among local businesses to her time spent at Hogan’s. “Gaylord is home to a very special community which is supported by outstanding local businesses and their owners” Rodgers said. “I transferred universities in order to find an opportunity such as this one, and I am very pleased to have been chosen to contribute to the Chamber’s work.”
