Annual Awards Banquet

Each year the Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce celebrates the extraordinary things local community members, businesses, and organizations have done in Otsego County. This year’s Annual Awards Banquet will be held on February 18, 2010  from 6pm - 8:30pm at Treetops Resort where we will present the following awards:

Gordon G. Everett Memorial Bell Tower Award: Recognizing new construction and/or renovation projects that best exemplify investment in Otsego County, while maintaining the Alpine spirit and theme. 

* You Made It Happen Award: Given to a person, business or organization that, through exceptional contributions and/or commitment, positively affected the growth of the Gaylord community over the past year. 

* Chamber Volunteer of the Year: Recognizing a community leader who donates his or her time to Chamber activities and events. 

* Chamber Ambassador of the Year Award: Presented to the Ambassador who put forth extraordinary efforts on behalf of the chamber. 

* Chairman’s Award: Presented to a member of the Chamber of Commerce who exhibits a commitment to his or her business and the community, the recipient is chosen by the outgoing Chamber Chairman. 

* Golden Pineapple Award: Honoring a member of the Chamber of Commerce for their exceptional customer service. 

* Daune Weiss Memorial – Businessperson of the Year Award: Given to a business owner or manager who best exemplifies Daune Weiss' generosity in giving time, money, staff and/or facilities for community benefit.
 

The Annual Awards Banquet will feature a Hospitality Hour starting at 6pm as well as dinner and Motivational Speaker John Powers.

2010 Award Recipients

The Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Banquet took place February 18, 2010, at the Treetops Resort Convention Center. Two hundred people attended the popular event, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Independent Bank, and Paxton Resources where local community members, businesses, and organizations are celebrated for excellence in the Gaylord area. The recipient of each award is showcased below.

Ø Gordon G. Everett Memorial Bell Tower Award: Recognizing new construction and/or renovation projects that best exemplify investment in Otsego County, while maintaining the Alpine spirit and theme. Alpine Chocolate Haus, Hogan’s Jewelers, Otsego County Abstract and Sugar Bowl Restaurant received this award for their investment in the Downtown area through the Façade Improvement Project.

Ø You Made It Happen Award: Given to a person, business or organization that, through exceptional contributions and/or commitment, positively affected the growth of the Gaylord community over the past year. The I-75 Crossing Task Force received this award for their collective contribution in bringing the many area agencies together to plan and execute the new I-75 Crossing.

Ø Chamber Volunteer of the Year: Recognizing a community leader who donates his or her time to Chamber activities and events. It was presented to Jim Driver for his volunteer efforts on behalf of the Chamber’s numerous programs as well as his past support through being a member of the Chamber Board.

Ø Chamber Ambassador of the Year Award: Presented to the Ambassador who put forth extraordinary efforts on behalf of the chamber in 2009. It was presented to Donna Stubenvoll of Century 21: Dunn and Associates.

Ø Chairman’s Award: Presented to a member of the Chamber of Commerce who exhibits a commitment to his or her business and the community, the recipient is chosen by the outgoing Chamber Chairman. It was presented to Scott & Janice Lampert by Matthew Rooyakker, 2009 Chamber Chairman.

Ø Golden Pineapple Award: Honoring a member of the Chamber of Commerce for their exceptional customer service. This year’s recipient was Nelson’s Funeral Home.

Ø Daune Weiss Memorial – Businessperson of the Year Award: Given to a business owner or manager who best exemplifies Daune Weiss' generosity in giving time, money, staff and/or facilities for community benefit. It was presented to Stanley Dombrowski of the Maier & Associates Financial Group.

It’s time once again to cast your vote for our prestigious annual awards. Please give careful thought to each category and provide at least one nominee for each (more are always welcome) by December 4th. Please find attached a listing of past award recipients.

Your Chamber Board will review all nominations and will select this year’s deserving recipients. They will be announced at the Chamber’s Annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, February 18, 2010, at the Treetops Resort Convention Center.
